El Mandarino
About This Spot
Stepping into El Mandarino, tucked into the vibrant heart of Condesa, feels like slipping into a small, warm corner of bustling city life where time slows just enough to savor moments and flavors alike. The space is intimate, its modest size softening the hum of conversation and kitchen rhythms into a cozy backdrop for shared meals. There’s an easygoing pace here, where the clatter of wok and chopping knife speak quietly of care and tradition, inviting you to settle in and watch your meal come to life.
The atmosphere is unpretentious yet thoughtful, where the staff’s genuine warmth gently threads through the busy service, making each visitor feel like a part of an unfolding story rather than a mere stop on a map. Conversations are a mix of familiar local voices and international accents, reflecting the neighborhood’s eclectic pulse without losing the intimacy of a neighborhood favorite.
Food at El Mandarino is a grounded, vibrant exploration of Chinese cuisine, with dishes crafted to highlight fresh, often unexpected flavor pairings that linger pleasantly. Whether it’s the punch of spice in a chicken dish or the delicate balance of a vividly aromatic soup, every plate carries the reassuring hallmark of home-cooked care. The ingredients, clearly chosen with an eye toward authenticity and freshness, come together in preparations that feel both comforting and adventurous.
What unfolds here is more than just a meal; it’s a gentle discovery of textures and traditions, where each bite invites you deeper into a culinary story that feels personal and shared at once. El Mandarino quietly thrives on this feeling—small enough to be quietly cherished, lively enough to be remembered, and friendly enough to invite repeat visits without ceremony.

Vegetarian options! ¡Qué riquísimo! The food was amazing! Went with a group of 10 and we loved our food! Great flavors, fresh food, and kind staff! We order most of the menu, and recommend everything (except the steamed rice)

Such a cute spot for Chinese food in Mexico City! My partner and I ordered the roll, fried rice, chicken, and lettuce wraps. The portions were generous and heavy on the meat.

The best, freshest food we’ve had in CDMX! The staff is friendly and cheerful with each other. Also has enough english to help us order. Fresh ingredients being sliced and diced in front of us while we eat. We’ll be back over and over again. No doubt.

Tiny little restaurant with great food. Made right in front of you. We loved it. Service was awesome and the price was great.

Very good food overall. I tried shrimps in a tangerine sauce, thai rice and sweet and sour pork. The service is friendly and the menu has plenty of options; everything I tried was delicious. Cuisine here seems authentic. The place is not very big, so it is a bit uncomfortable but the food is totally worth it.

Mandarino is a tiny Chinese eatery that delivers large and generous portions to fill you right up. With seating for about eight people—four at the bar and another four at the only table—it’s an intimate spot. We had a short wait of about 5-10 minutes before being seated at the bar, which offered a front-row view of the cooks in action, skillfully working the woks. The bar chairs were a bit uncomfortable, but it was worth the experience of watching the food being prepared. The staff and owner were very attentive, and our orders were taken promptly. We chose a vegetable fried rice to share, along with two orders of Hunan chicken and a side of veggie rolls. The fried rice came out quickly and, while fresh, was slightly too salty for my taste and cooled down faster than I would have liked. The Hunan chicken, on the other hand, stole the show. It was delicious and had the perfect balance of flavors. The portions were generous, and despite thoroughly enjoying the dish, we barely made a dent in it before feeling full. The veggie rolls were also tasty and well-prepared. Overall, the service and food were great. My only recommendation would be to share entrees, as the portions are quite large. For the price, Mandarino offers excellent value for good Chinese food in the Roma neighborhood.

Great little restaurant. Was looking for a place to grab a quick meal and walked past here - and decided to stop in for a meal. I was pleasantly surprised. Food was simple, but well executed with good ingredients. Service was great - friendly staff that was very helpful. There isn’t anything wrong with the atmosphere, but this place is small. Maybe space for 6-8 people to eat here at once. But, we had no problem getting a seat. The person who seated us also took our order and cooked our food. Food itself is hitting on favorites from across Asia - which doesn’t always work. But I liked everything I tasted. If this place were in Berkeley, I’d be a regular.
